where is my poem? by Wynne Y. Henry

waiting for me
in the inner recesses of my mind
where no one sees
         not even me
screaming to come out of obscurity
 mystery
        hidden identity
and tell its own story
no longer sworn to secrecy
        and bound by metaphors
but revealing the naked truth for all to see
where is my poem?
embedded in rhyme
and quick wit
        subversive to the nth degree
       just below the radar
      where no one sees
          what they thought I meant
but what had happened really was…
               once upon a time
                 when we were nine
 oh forget it
they don’t really want to know
that was such a long time ago
where is my poem?
it’s written
in
me.
