“Once Upon A Day” by Alison Michelle Ellison: The New Writers Pick of the Week by Andy Scott

Once Upon a Day

Once upon a day…
At my house, outside my door

A storm did brew….
Forces of nature and clouds gathered and grew
Winds blew hard and drove the rain in swirling chaos
We ran to batten down the hatches and huddled real close
To find shelter into the house and under the roof

Winds were blowing so hard…
Lightening lit up the sky
You could not see for the blinding rain
Thunder seemed to crush my ears, I felt the house vibrate and shake
And was in fear

And, through it all…
My favorite tree in my front yard, stood always constant for many a year

Now, I am so very sad…
My poor tree will never be

Never shade me from the scorching sun of a summer day
Never hear the rustling leaves of the tree speaking to me

I used to feed the birds from this lovely tree….
And watch these feathered friends, little squirrels & chipmunks come visit me in my tree
It made me so happy to be a part of nature

No more will that be…
This bad storm took away my tree
So now, I will pick up the pieces of my once lovely tree
I will always remember the joy it gave me

I pray a silent prayer for this once beautiful tree…
It meant a lot,
For it was a part of me in my history.

Things are always changing and blowing in the wind

I will start anew…
Plant another tree for Mother Nature and me.

“The Language of Poetry” by Bob Strum: The New Writers Pick of the Week by Andy Scott

THE LANGUAGE OF POETRY

We are all lost souls
Seeking to be heard,
Wanting to be understood,
Seeking, soul mates,
Understanding,
And the joys of harmonising
With those who comprehend!
We can shout out loud
So that passers bye may hear,
Or perform on a stage
Or on a radio show.
Perhaps that is enough.
The written word,
Rolled on the tongue.
Read many times,
Stirs the senses
And makes it easier
To convey a message.
The language of poetry.
Describes a central theme,
Brought to life
By a companion background.
A pearl set in a cluster of diamonds.
The background
Is harmony,
Music conveyed through
Rhyme, rhythm,
Choice of words,
Metaphor and allusion
To capture attention
And help
Implant the message.
We are like flowers
Nectar attracting
Visitors.
The Pollen ready
To be transported
To those who are waiting
To receive it.
It’s a form of communication
Like no other.
The gift of seeing colours,
Hearing sounds
Beyond the range
Of those who do not understand.

“Querida Mama” by Ketsy Rivera: The New Writers Pick of the Week by Andy Scott

‎”QUERIDA MAMA”

Sending you this message with love
You magnify my happiness from the start:

[Querida Mama]

You are healing when my soul is weary
And my heart is injured left for bleeding

You are deserving of this message, truly
Because of your kindness, your loyalty to family

Your beauty is a dove shielded by the One
By peace – by love – by tenderness -
And warm rays of the sun

So I’ve chosen this day, to bring into recollection
Fairest of flame, profound one of recognition

Hope you see how much you mean to me
For you are my mother and a best friend

Song of beauty, turquoise blue sea calming
You are that magnification sun illuminating

One lantern of truth justice, of peace
Light so powerful and all dispelling

Road darkened when the soul is need
Of love, of grace and of saving….

You save me!
You save me!
You save me!

Henceforth, from broken dimension haze
When my heart’s weary and starts to fade

Under fire and quicksilver liquid of sky
You lift me up, so I can see One is calling
Sacred stone new name to be revealing

For it is well with my soul, you praying!
For it is well with my heart, you giving!
For it is well with my mind, you meditating!

Howls in the wind are not with you
Well nigh, such dreadful nefarious things:

[Al borde entre la oscuridad y la Luz]

For quiet a dove distant to a stranger
Evermore, to Spectre the one that is deceiving……
