Do you want to read Peggy Madsen’s bio? The New Writers have requested that I write a bio about myself. Though I’m not given to writer’s block, it’s not easy to write about oneself, especially considering that my pursuits, both business and personal, are widely disparate.A chronological resume might help, but such a listing is a little dry. If I only told you what I have done for a living, it doesn’t give you the full picture, but it’s a start. You see, a B.F.A. in music usually means you’ll be making a career in some other field, as was the case for me. I began making a living in computer programming, working for those big Wall Street banks we have all learned to dislike lately.
Many years ago, I left my windowless programmer/analyst’s cubicle, and after a brief stint in music retailing, I taught myself desktop publishing, Internet programming and went back to college to learn real estate sales and management.
I found friends and business associates online in business and in Mensa, the high IQ society, first on Compuserve and then on the Internet. I was an early Internet adopter and one of the first commercial users. I taught other real estate agents to write their own web pages and wrote web pages for the first real estate company on the Internet.
I do volunteer work for multiple organizations. I’m webmaster for Region 7 of American Mensa and for a local Colorado Mensa chapter, as well as for Colorado’s Summit County Democrats. Active in politics, I’m a member of the executive committee of the Progressive Democrats of Colorado and have served as caucus chair, delegate and election judge.
Other pursuits? Writing, of course: three books in progress, decades of poetry and various short stories. I’ve worked as Mensa editor and on their Internet communications and content committees. Excerpts from my first book on early learning won a national publications recognition award.
I’ve had a lifelong love of music and singing. I have had the privilege of performing in Carnegie Hall in New York and in numerous other venues. I’ve had my own madrigal group and have sung with the Long Island Philharmonic Chorus and the Colorado Choir. I’ve also sung numerous solos in church and community productions over the past thirty years.
My skills include digital layout creation for books, magazines, newsletters, ads and brochures. I do copywriting, photography and photo retouching. I create videos and digitally edit them. I also create graphic designs and websites and write blogs.
I’m a Colorado licensed Broker and Realtor. I’m married and have three children, two of whom I have home schooled.
Contact me through the New Writers for editing and production work.
